World Conflict & Concealed Carry

Everyone acknowledges conflict exists throughout the world today, but, who can explain why, and will it ever end, or, will Concealed Carry become obsolete?  Most individuals advocate love and respect for others; however, history of world-wide tension continues to grow.

Social scientists explain it as a means of attempting to better ourselves, or, improve an ideology we represent.  An alternate means of promoting such change is through compromise, understanding, responsibility and empathy to name a few.  Prime examples of significant changes resulting from conflict are; the birth of our country, human rights and labor unions, all of which were preceded by unsuccessful negotiations.

While most of us claim being “lovers” rather than “fighters”; we continue seeing a need for Concealed Carry when someone sacrifices “your” life to meet “their” demands.  On a world scale, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict reveals no end to agony that prevails, and, offering a solution is beyond the scope of this article.

Palestine was recognized as an Arab country before World War II, but, during this turmoil a massive increase in Jewish population took place.  In 1948 the United Nations divided Palestine to include Israel as a state resulting in major tensions existing today.

Israeli’s developed a self-defensive program resisting enemy attacks which has proven highly successful for many years.  Their techniques are recognized throughout the world and finally being used for airline security checks in the USA plus combat training and self-defense situations.  Israeli security goes beyond using a Concealed Carry weapon for self-defense including a hand-to-hand fighting technique called “Krav Maga”.

This method is described as an instinctive and logical approach overcoming all types of violence with simple defensive skills developed by veteran experts.  People from over the world take this training including; men and women of all ages plus law enforcement and military people.  One can become “ultimate” in self-defense with Krav Maga but it takes; desire, stamina, extensive training and discipline.  Training facilities are located across the US and may be in your area.

Ordinary guys may not choose taking this course, but, should give fore-thought to some basic tactics used in advanced defense training courses.  You may know the main tactic used by an enemy is: “surprise”, but, we should also realize villains pick the time, place and method of an assault.  We can foil their attempts by circumventing these conditions.

It’s also helpful dealing in advance with the mindset required for defensive shooting in a public place and avoiding harm to bystanders.  How do we pick out “good guys” and “bad guys” and will you be mistaken for a bad guy.  You may not take the above courses to become an “alpha dog”, however, give serious thought to the basic tactics noted; they may save an innocent life.

Perhaps the greatest achievement of humankind would be for scientists to develop a pill enabling complete eradication of our negative traits with a total reliance on treating nations, cultures and individuals as we treat ourselves.  This would eliminate a need for Concealed Carry, although I wonder…how many would take the medication…Better “keep on packin dude”.

Concealed Carry Prevalence

Firearm ownership rights are contested by political leaders and citizens around the globe from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe.  The United States and the United Kingdom are the most talked about countries with totally opposing views on gun legislation, yet both sides should agree, the common objective is to assure rights and safety for their citizens.

It is difficult to appreciate the freedom that we Concealed Carry gun owners have in this country until one reads about the strict laws in other countries like Britain, Germany and Australia.  Mass homicides in these countries cause public legislators to support  “stricter“ gun control laws each time a disaster occurs.

Gun control in Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Wyoming and Vermont became more liberal, requiring no permit to Concealed Carry, starting with Alaska in 2003 and Arkansas in 2013.  Additional states of Colorado, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Main, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Utah and West Virginia are also considering laws allowing Concealed Carry without a permit.

Other states are poised in the opposite direction such as California, Connecticut and New Jersey, requiring a permit which includes individual testing and firearm restrictions.  Concealed Carry owners must also be aware of various “city gun laws” that may differ from state requirements.  This wide inconsistency between state and city laws make it extremely difficult for Conceal Carry owners to respect, while traveling, and begs the need for “universal carry” laws across the country.

The future of Concealed Carry in the U.S. impinges heavily upon favorable public opinion polls.  These surveys also show a majority in support of criminal background checks, mental health checks, response training to armed attacks in public places and prevention of legal gun purchases for illegal re-sale.

Each time a tragedy occurs, anti-gun politicians prey upon public emotions for support of more gun laws.  Gun enthusiasts generally feel legislation, restricting certain types of guns and magazine clip sizes, etc. are ineffective measures for stopping crime.

Both sides of the debate will agree; guns are obviously getting into the wrong hands, but must also realize, additional laws have no effect on criminal types.

Concealed Carry popularity accelerated with “shall issue” laws in several states during the early 1990’s, and today, license revocations in all states are at a miniscule level.  It’s self-evident; guns in the hands of responsible, law abiding citizens is an inalienable right to self-protection and not a threat to society.  It’s also undisputable that guns in the hands of irresponsible people are a danger to society while strict enforcement of penalties is required.

Many anti-gun proponents don’t understand one’s right to carry because of a deep emotional fear, or, dislike for firearms and believe nobody should own one.  This not a logical or, realistic solution and shows no regard for the rights of others.  Such prejudice can only be overcome with an overwhelming response from Concealed Carry gun owners.

The best means to address gun ownership policies can be drawn from recent history which indicates no problems with ordinary citizens.  Let’s all stay involved in some way, otherwise, despite the truth, we will eventually lose our right to Concealed Carry as noted in the above countries.  Keep on packin dude…it’s your inalienable right…if you can keep it.

Concealed Carry & Easter Faith

Easter Sunday celebrates the foundation of Christianity being established on belief that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, rose from the dead and ascended into heaven after sacrificing his life for mankind.  Religion is an experience transcending earthly connections to answer questions science continues to struggle with…who are we, what is our purpose and destination; but, what about our motives for personal survival…are they in conflict with religious belief?

It’s our inalienable nature to survive, but, most religions generally shy away from the topic of “concealed carry” whereas biblical comments on violence can support and/or deny use of force depending on one’s interpretation. An excellent article on shaping our religious views about self-protection was written by University of Oklahoma, Professor David Yearly.  He reminds us early use of guns, in this country, protected our lives and assures religious freedom that continues today.

Father Giorgio Giorgi, a Roman Catholic priest from Retorbido, Italy, builds a strong case for justifying self-protection in one of his sermons, whereas, church hierarchy may not share these views.  Most would agree, traditional religion is a guide for moral behavior, however, individual belief and ultimate practice is directed by individual conscience.

Easter can be a time for reviewing our personal values, no matter what religious faith we have, and when hunting Easter eggs with the children; be mindful concealed carry is an insurance token for personal and family protection.  Also consider life is more significant when we develop an understanding about ourselves, our purpose and destiny.  Have a happy Easter and keep on “packin” dude.

Concealed Carry Toughness

Do you remember what it was like when first deciding to Concealed Carry?  For most of us, it starts off with excitement…can’t wait to get my license to carry…buy a handgun…go to the range…start my first training class etc.  We listened with precise attention as our class instructor talked about semi-autos, revolvers, shooting fundamentals plus safety and responsibility.  After several hours of classroom discussion and shooting range certification, we finally began our new experience with the “art” of Concealed Carry.

Eventually, newness wore off as we began to understand our level of “Concealed Carry Toughness”.  It takes a little extra effort, in the morning; putting on a holster, choosing suitable clothing for concealment and maybe during the day; being aware of “no-carry” zones plus experiencing less comfort with a handgun; all of which can lead to disinterest in ”hauling” a firearm around.

Each individual has a different toughness level, including dress requirements, comfort tolerance and reasons for Concealed Carry.  Some have motives strong enough to promote packing a 50 caliber, 3 pound “hog leg” 24/7, but, this does not result in comfort plus concealment and dress preferences wished for by most folks.  I talked to people who carry a full size “1911” daily and others who leave their compact “380” at home most times.

We may have different reasons, but, it makes good sense if a weapon conceals easily and is comfortable to carry, you will be less likely to leave it at home.  What happened in San Bernadino, California, December, 2015 is another example of mass killings that have plagued this country for over one-hundred years.  All 14 people may not have died if some were practicing Concealed Carry that day.

Our nation is not alone as exemplified by the November, 2015, tragedy in Paris, France.  If only some of these 130 helpless victims were, practicing Concealed Carry thus defending them against a brutal terrorist massacre. Motivation can be driven by a negative personal experience, or, exposure to daily media violence reports.

Toughness is bolstered through confidence, gained with firing range practice, or, dry shooting at home. In addition we program ourselves through mentally envisioned self-defense situations not necessarily involving a gun fight, but, quick evaluation of an escape path from harm without needing to draw and shoot.

Visualizing mental shooting and situation tactics will improve Concealed Carry skills by repeatedly picturing successful actions, over and again, with intensive use of your five senses; vision, smell, hearing, taste, touch and feel to absorb each self-defense action.  This mental repetition develops “muscle memory” triggering an automatic reaction during an actual encounter.

Give careful consideration to whatever makes you Concealed Carry Tough for thugs who will show up anytime.  Keep on “packin” dude.

Sam Colt & Concealed Carry

Samuel Colt (1814-1862) started up “Colt’s Patent Fire-Arms Manufacturing Company” in 1832, after a long struggle with several business ventures.  He is credited with high volume production of his 6-shot revolvers and infamous M1911 semi-automatic pistol designed by John Browning.

There is historic contention about the morality of Colt’s aggressive advertising and sales practice, supplying weapons for “both sides” during the 1861-1865 Civil War and also foreign countries under similar circumstances.  This questionable practice continues throughout our world today.

Everyone in this country; gun-haters included, owes thanks to Sam Colt for improving our living standards and manufacturing technology contributions, enabling the United States to become today’s superpower.  In addition, the impact of machining gun components within precision tolerances, allows today’s world manufacturers to assemble products at high volume with low cost.

Nowadays, Colt Manufacturing Company, LLC manufactures a variety of firearms for military, law enforcement, and personal use including the concealed carry, 9mm & 45cal Colt Defender and Colt 380 Mustang.

Their slogan, supposedly originated by early Colt sales people, has several versions; one of which is:  “God Made Man & Sam Colt Made Them Equal”…an outstanding catchphrase describing our reasons for concealed carry plus the Second Amendment.  We also don’t go looking for a fight, but, we do insist on; “Stand Your Ground” rights.

The heated debate whether citizens should Concealed Carry continues; however, have you noticed; many public officials who speak out “against” the “right to carry” employ security protection service?  We respect the commitment of public servants and advocate their need for personal protection, but, how do they conclude armed protection is not necessary for the ordinary citizen while they retain security people for themselves?  What is their opinion of an average citizen’s life?

Some large cities, like New York, have strict laws making Concealed Carry almost impossible for citizens; yet, murder rates are highly concentrated in these same locations.  Everyone will agree; a concealed weapon for self-defense does not always guarantee one’s safety whereas unfortunate incidents do occur; however, this is not valid reasoning for keeping guns away from competent, law abiding citizens.

We all know guns are considered a last resort for protecting our lives, and, Sam Colt’s sales people were exactly right when they said “God Made Man & Sam Colt Made Them Equal”.  Those against Concealed Carry present a flawed case, while 2nd Amendment supporters maintain; self-defense is an obvious “natural” right.  Public officials hire security protection, police carry weapons and our forefathers have used guns to overcome tyranny and violence since 1776.  Regrettably, the need for Concealed Carry will not change until there is a universal change in human behavior.

It would be foolish for “anti-gun” public officials to give up their personal security while “right to carry” advocates would agree…so why don’t they pursue the real causes of gun violence and quit messing with the good guys.  Be safe and keep on “packin” dude.

Concealed Carry Vs. the NFL?

The 2015 movie, “Concussion” is an excellent portrayal of head trauma damage caused in football players today.  Research indicates they are more likely to die from a neurodegenerative disease.  A National Football League (NFL) player shot himself and his girlfriend, a few years ago, becoming the subject of an emotional “anti-gun” rant by NBC sportscaster, Bob Costas, during a nationally televised football game.

This marks another attempt by liberals using their influential power outlawing Concealed Carry handguns as in past disasters at Tucson Arizona, the Congresswoman Giffords tragedy, a movie theater in Aurora Colorado, Fort Hood in Texas along with many others.  Such depressed moments offer best opportunities for “gun haters” to negatively impact public views on firearm ownership, but hopefully, logical discussions will always prevail soon after things settle down.

Medical science researchers discovered new evidence leading to brain injuries in football players can affect rational behavior.  Did the above tragedy a result from football injuries affecting mental balance?  Was it drugs? Later evidence indicated he and his girlfriend were out drinking which resulted in a lethal domestic quarrel.

Anti-gun people must put their emotions aside, while addressing root causes of tragedy, realizing such kinds of incidents can exist without Concealed Carry firearms involved.  Bob Costas adores the “violent” game of football and accepts negative consequences such as related stress, drug problems plus mental and physical injuries to players…football is his “god”, making this form of violence “ok” while guns are “evil”.

If a decision is made to remove all “causes” of violence from society; football should then be on the list and Costas should be giving “anti-football” lectures instead of “anti-gun” lectures.  To further expand “his thoughts” on this subject, we must get rid of all “cause” related sources such as; automobiles, airplanes, motorcycles, boats, kitchen knives, matches, step ladders, gasoline, water, & saturated fats because they all may be related to un-natural deaths…it’s a totally stupid argument.

There was a serious component missing in the sportscaster’s discussion called “accountability”.  The individual took two lives requiring the “root cause” of this tragedy be further investigated without simply blaming guns.  All natural and man-made resources in our daily lives involve use with restraint, but unfortunately, this doesn’t always happen.

We need clear focus on real causes of violence in our society, rather than Concealed Carry, some of which are deep rooted and will take generations to resolve; lack of family structure, lack of discipline, lack of ethics, mental illness, no jobs, no education, disrespect for our laws, individual unreliability, entertainment media violence, soft on criminals, disrespect for others…you heard them all at one time or another.

Anti-gun people will continue their deep seated hatred for guns with emotional rhetoric only exacerbating such problems.  Concealed Carry people and gun lovers must continue responsible use of firearms and support real solutions to social problems which will always prevail over emotional outbreaks from gun haters.  Hang in there, defend your 2nd amendment rights and…keep on packin dude.

Concealed Carry Church Debate

Back in the late 1990’s when Concealed Carry licenses were being issued to thousands of ordinary citizens, the anti-gun crowd expected it would “take us back to the Wild West”…”there will be “shooting in the streets”. Statistics have proven these claims totally inaccurate as crime rates continue falling.  Carrying a weapon in church should be no different than carrying in public places and hopefully, our legislators and/or church hierarchy will eventually “see the light”.

Past shooting tragedies in churches across our country have stirred up debates on this subject.  Many congregations allow Concealed Carry while anti-gun people are vigorously opposed.  It appears this argument will eventually be lost, based upon common sense strategies toward impending threats from terrorists and mentally disturbed individuals.

Properly trained gun owners can be undetected and proficient in crowded environments, including churches, whereas area safety cannot be maintained with “no-carry” signs.  Some anti-gun people are, once again, concerned with the “wild west” scenario at the expense of documented shootings in churches and other no-carry zones across the country.  Churches of all denominations are over coming resistance to Concealed Carry and recognizing a need for additional security.

My curiosity about such a change caused wondering how nervous anti-gun people will react on that first day, when parishioners carry a firearm in church, which led to this following bazar dream:

“It was a beautiful Sunday morning as I got dressed in my cowboy boots and spurs, strapped on my silver clad black leather cartridge belt and outboard Colt 44 revolver, plus Stetson cowboy hat and attended 9AM Sunday Mass.  Greeters at the front entrance were stunned as I walked in; they quietly stared at my 10 gallon hat, “44 hog leg”, pointed toe boots and silver spurs.  It was quiet except for gasping and moaning of men, women and children going for cover.

Everyone made plenty of space for me as I walked down the aisle, looking for a pew, when a little old lady offered me her seat…in fact, the whole pew emptied just for me.  The celebration began as a startled priest suddenly noticed me and the word, Jesus, uncontrollably jumped from his mouth.  Later his sermon was a little shaky, but brief, with no requests for future money.

It’s my day for gathering offerings and people are extremely generous as I pass the collection basket.  One person had no money, but, threw in his watch.  Another nervous acting gentleman seemed to display deep religious faith as he continuously repeated the sign of the cross.   The petrified choir was a little off key, but, everyone seemed to like my singing.

Reverend Father was greeting people after Mass, as I walked out of church.  He cautiously reminded me not to feel obligated toward attending Sunday Mass.  My fellow parishioners politely waited in the parking lot, behind their cars, as I got on my horse, shouted, “HI HO Silver”, and rode off on a beautiful Sunday morning, to meet Tonto for breakfast.”

The above comments are pure fantasy, but, the reality of this article is; all churches would be much safer with a security program involving Concealed Carry members.

In the meantime…keep on “packin” dude.
